The Mysterious Sport of "Bandy" - NY Times Assignment

A few weeks ago, I was assigned to shoot a sport I had never even heard of.  I showed up in half a dozen layers and my largest winter boots to stand for 2 hours on a sheet of ice, photographing what could easily be confused for hockey.

I guess that the sport is more popular among Swedes and Russians, but it is growing in popularity and is trying to make a bid for Olympic inclusion in the future.  We'll have to wait and see...

Go read Jeff Klein's story and you too will know the mysteries of Bandy.

The ball - not puck, that is used in Bandy.

Check out the homemade goalkeeper gloves - no stick for goalies!

Much larger than a hockey rink.  More like a soccer field.

excellent to see your article, I have already received queries from the Boston area. We look forward to seeing more of your images from the shoot that day ... especially if you caught BJ Byers flying thru the air at 9:45 after collision with goal keeper.
