NY Times: Purple Martins

This was the first time I ever photographed birds for an assignment.  It was actually kinda' fun.  We waited almost an hour for the adults to get comfortable enough with us to land at their nest and feed their young.  Once they were cool with us, they became very active--returning wtih bugs every few minutes.  I saw them bring several dragonfly's in.  It was interesting stuff.

Martins struggle with finding housing and battling against invasive species.  Read the article for the low-down.  And they winter in South America!  Quite a migration for a 7" bird.

dad and I have been enjoyiing your website and blogs---Bekah's too. Guess this is the way to keep up with what is new with you and the kids. Enjoyed seeing the pictures of Jack and the chickens, of course! :) Missed seeing Boone in the pics---he's the only one I couldn't find. If you can, e-mail us the family pic you took on vacation. I am wanting to use it in our home---I felt it was a good one and I want to share it. Please send when you have time---I know you're busy and I will be oh so grateful. Love to all of you---Mom for Dad
